Australia
Australia travel opportunities offer a world of amazing contrasts from cosmopolitan cities to the rugged outback, from tropical rainforest to the Great Barrier Reef.
The island nation known as Australia is made up of six states - New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, along with two territories - the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) and the Northern Territory.

New South Wales' capital, Sydney, sits on one of the most beautiful harbors in the world. Victoria is compact and diverse, offering everything from rainforest and snow-capped mountains to sun baked outback and a stunning coastline. Queensland, home of the Great Barrier Reef, offers a vast variety of experiences, from tropical islands to rainforest to outback.

South Australia is a state burgeoning with history, wine and wildlife. You can swim with dolphins in Western Australia, or tour historic towns and national parks bursting with wildflowers. And Tasmania's dramatic mountains, sweeping coastal plains, dense forests and pristine beaches are never far from reach.

Come and say g'day!

New South Wales ~ Sydney Australia  Sydney is a vibrant, cosmopolitan gateway to Australia, with both natural and man-made charms. Its beautiful beaches, historic enclaves, top-flight restaurants and surrounding attractions combine to make the city an essential Australian experience.
However, New South Wales is far from being simply about Sydney. All across the state you'll discover places big and small that each hold a variety of pleasures to suit anyone's tastes. It's all revealed here, from the endless splendor of Big Sky Country to the magical waters of the Murray River, the golden beaches of the Holiday Coast to the lush climes of the Blue Mountains.
The state of New South Wales truly boasts a wealth of diverse regional areas. Whether your holiday is based around just one rich area or takes in the broad scope of the entire state, the region of New South Wales is nothing short of a geographical marvel, ensuring enough options and activities to thrill travelers of all ages.
Northern Territory ~ Ayers Rock    Australia's Northern Territory is a timeless place of vast horizons, rainforests, red sand and grass plains.  The "Top End" of the state features the modern, cosmopolitan city of Darwin, the perfect base from which to discover surrounding national parks, wildlife attractions and Aboriginal settlements.
Kakadu National Park is famous for its lily-clad wetlands, extensive assortment of birds, Aboriginal rock-art sites, rainforest and waterfalls. Just as spectacular is Litchfield National Park, an oasis of rainforest and natural pools perfect for swimming. Visitors to the region characterize a boat cruise on the waters of Katherine Gorge as a magical experience.
The 'Red Centre' of the Northern Territory is a land of majestic Outback, marked by cloudless skies, red earth, mysterious monoliths, and ancient mountain ranges. The rippling forms of the MacDonnell Ranges, visible from the well-known Outback town of Alice Springs, hide idyllic natural pools, walking trails and picnic spots, while Kings Canyon's red sandstone walls plunge 330 feet into water holes below.
Another must-see is Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, the home of Ayers Rock and the Olgas. Ayers Rock at sunset, when it changes in color from fiery orange, through pinks, reds and deep violet, is truly awesome. And the Olgas, mountainous red domes that bulge out of the flat plains, are just as impressive.
Queensland ~ Cairns  Australia's Great Barrier Reef State, Queensland offers a vast variety of vacation experiences, from the Reef and its tropical islands to the wonders of the rainforest and the vast splendor of the Outback.
Cairns and tropical North Queensland offer easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and beyond. From here you can visit the reef itself, explore rainforests or visit the Outback. There are over 600 tours from Cairns, so no matter what level of adventure you prefer, from mild to wild, North Queensland has something for you.
The Whitsundays is an idyllic aquatic playground sprinkled with over 70 islands. Located near the Great Barrier Reef, this island chain provides an ideal backdrop for all types of watersports, particularly sailing and motor cruising.
From the world famous wilderness of Fraser Island to the beaches of the Gold Coast, Southern Queensland is packed with unique Australian experiences. Brisbane, Australia's river city, is a lovely blend of country-style charm in a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The Sunshine Coast provides a Pacific Oceanside retreat while the Gold Coast combines unspoiled natural areas with vibrant beach cities.
South Australia  South Australia is a state burgeoning with history, wine and wildlife.
Adelaide, the state's "Festival City," hugs the shoreline of the Southern Ocean, and is a perfect starting point to set out on an exploration of the wine regions, mountain ranges, the Outback, and the spectacular animal sanctuaries on its doorstep.
Immigrants from the wine-growing regions of Germany have added a romantic twist to the vineyards within easy reach of Adelaide. Pretty hamlets complete with Lutheran churches, fine restaurants and cellar-door tastings can be found in the Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills.
Wildlife abounds in South Australia, but Kangaroo Island off the coast of Adelaide is the most remarkable sanctuary of them all. Kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, birdlife, penguins, seals and sea lions, as well as other native creatures and impressive scenery make the island one of the top destinations in Australia.
Also just stone's throw from Adelaide lies the South Australian Outback. Here, desert, salt pans and sand hills roamed by camels and kangaroos are made all the more dramatic by the craggy hills of the Flinders Ranges, ghost towns, and the region's pioneering history.
Tasmania  Separated from mainland Australia by a 150-mile stretch of Bass Strait, Tasmania is a land apart - a place of beautiful, unspoiled landscapes, friendly, welcoming people, a pleasant, temperate climate, wonderful food and wine and a rich history.
According to experienced travelers who've criss-crossed the globe in search of excellence, Tasmania has one of the world's ten best beaches (Wineglass Bay), the world's best little town (Strahan) and has been rated the world's "best temperate island" by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.
Roughly the size of West Virginia, Tasmania is Australia's smallest state, with dramatic coastlines, rugged mountains, tall forests and sparkling highland lakes. More than 30 percent of the state is reserved in a network of National Parks and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, a refuge and habitat for rare plants and animals, including survivors of the ancient southern super continent, Gondwana.
Wilderness, heritage, art & culture, food & wine and so much more await you in Tasmania.
Victoria  Victoria is located at the southeastern tip of Australia, bordering New South Wales and South Australia.
The capital city, Melbourne, is famous for its sense of style. Glamorous events are a trademark, as are its cafes, wineries and shops. You'll find beautiful buildings, fantastic shopping precincts and countless shows, exhibitions and galleries to entertain.
Just outside Melbourne lies a world of natural beauty. The Twelve Apostles, a magnificent set of rock formations set along the Victorian coastline, are accessible for a day trip. Wilson's Promontory, a playground of wild animals, beaches, and forests, is only three hours' drive away. And just around the corner on Philip Island is the famous penguin parade. Each night, hundreds of penguins shuffle ashore with plenty of room for spectators to enjoy.
Only an hour's drive out of Melbourne is the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges, a region of hills, forests and wineries. There are over 200 vineyards in Victoria with each producing magnificent wines.
Further north is the high country where you can ski - and walk, kayak, canoe, fly and cycle. Wherever you turn in Victoria, you will be surprised with the diversity. It is a distinctive part of Australia with many unique experiences to be found.
Western Australia  Known as the "undiscovered state," Western Australia lies on the opposite side of the continent from the more populated East Coast of Australia.
Despite the distance, more and more travelers are making their way to Western Australia and returning home enthusiastic about the places they've seen and the things they've done. So now it's your turn to snorkel around desert islands, swim with the whale sharks and dolphins, and to tour the wineries, historic towns and national parks bursting with wildflowers.
Of the various regions of Western Australia, the Kimberley is one of the last true frontiers; a sparsely inhabited area made up of beautiful red-rock plateaus, endless bush, crocodile-inhabited wetlands, spectacularly wild coastline and huge cattle stations. One of Australia's prime bird watching sites, the Kimberley is a center for wilderness cruising and four-wheel-drive safaris. Definitely a unique experience!
For a more cosmopolitan option, visit Perth. With its modern skyscrapers and fantastic beaches, Perth is both relaxed and energetic, with an uninhibited lifestyle envied by those places lacking surf, sea, sand and youthful exuberance.
In Australia's southwest you'll find massive stands of karri and jarrah trees reaching for the sky, along with world-class surfing, magnificent ocean scenery, and the premium wine vineyards and cellar doors of the beautiful Margaret River.
